The Minister for Religious Affairs in the Prime Minister's Department in Malaysia, Senator Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokthar, has said that he will raise concerns with Saudi Arabia's Minister of Hajj and Umrah about the increasing cost of hotel accommodation in Makkah and Madinah. The rising costs in Saudi Arabia are expected to affect the cost of umrah pilgrimages. The minister, who is currently in Saudi Arabia attending the Hajj and Umrah Services Conference 2023, said that he understands the concerns of umrah pilgrims but that the issue is beyond their control. He hopes that umrah agencies will find a way to minimize the impact of the increased costs on prospective pilgrims. Previously, it was reported that umrah and hajj pilgrims should be prepared for potential last-minute price increases on umrah packages due to a sudden increase in room rates caused by high demand for hotel accommodation in Makkah and Madinah.
